Volvo’s Own Thomas Ingenlath Awarded for Design Contributions

In the past three years, Volvo’s latest models—including the XC90 and S90--have received quite a bit of acclaim for their fresh designs, inside and out. That’s due in part to the contributions of Senior VP of Design, Thomas Ingenlath. Since he joined the company in 2012, the mark he’s left on the lineup had been hard to miss.

Recently, Ingenlath was awarded by AutoCar for his achievements with the “Design Hero” designation—recognizing the impact he’s had on making the modern Volvo lineup more visually appealing than ever. His approach to design takes into account numerous Scandinavian aesthetic traditions, including clean, crisp lines, and an attention to precision and detail. This was best showcased by the V90 T6 Inscription that Mr. Ingenlath brought to the ceremony. Painted in Maple Brown, the wagon had dark window tints, diamond-cut 20-inch wheels, and a Nappa leather and walnut wood inlay interior, it was a great example of the ways Ingenlath’s design philosophy combines function and form.
