Know When to Check Your Brakes

Knowing that our cars will come to a complete stop at a moments notice is something that for the most part, we as drivers take for granted. But it is important to remember that our brakes are a part of a machine that wears down over time and requires regular maintenance. So if you didn't already know, here are some general rules of thumb for when to have your brakes inspected by a professional.
Approximately once every year or 12,000 miles, you should have someone take a look at your brakes and determine whether any need replacing. At the same time, or whenever you're getting your car's oil changed, it's a good idea to have them take a look at, and top up, your brake fluid if necessary. Also, if a warning light on your vehicles dash comes on, or you can hear a high pitched grinding when pressure is applied to your brakes, it's a good idea to get them checked.
